The full line of bags from Nepenthes brand South 2 West 8‘s Fall/Winter 2011 collection. Made in America and sold in Japan with the exception of the Nepenthes store in New York, unless there are other shops that I am unaware of that deal Nepenthes goods. The collection touches on just about every rugged bag archetype: the Jansport/Kelty daypack, Duluth canoe, Filson satchel, etcetera. See the entire lookbook here.

Japanese Style
I think this post speaks for itself but I’m a big fan of Japanese style. Pictured are some fine uses of olive drab, breton stripes, camo, and a sort of Japanese sprezzatura for lack of better words. Image sources and places of interest: Men’s Club, Public, United Arrows, Beams, Zabou, & I Would Hit That.

Turning Ivy

Ivy indeed, 1960’s covers of Japanese style magazine Men’s Club and other various Japanese ivy style print ephemera. There’s plenty more here and here.

shapes and sizes
Vintage daypacks from Bridge of Sapporo, they’ve got quite a collection of them as well as boots, parkas, fleeces, everything! Must have been an interesting time when these companies were so experimental with their designs, walk into any store today and you’d be hard pressed to find gear this fun.
Free & Easy
Illustrations from Free & Easy magazine, Japan only but available on some US web stores few and far between. As Mister Crew mentioned these illustrations seem kind of silly without seeing them within the context of the issue’s themes which range from navy, army, workwear, and the “Dad’s Style” issues whose covers have included photographs of Steve McQueen and more recently Eric Clapton. Full spread scans from “The Navy-ism” issue below.

Gloverall for Warehouse
Japan, always getting all the good stuff. A limited collaboration between Japanese brand Warehouse and English duffle coat extraordinaires Gloverall. Read about it here (jumbled google chrome translation) and buy one here if you’ve got a Japanese sugar momma. Also of note is this short Gloverall duffle made for Oi Polloi, not quite as pricey.
