Topo Designs x Tenkara Rod Co

The awesome people at Topo Designs teamed up with Tenkara Rod Co (a little company out of Idaho) to put together a Tenkara kit that’s ready for a morning or lazy day of fishing right out of the box. The lightweight 3.2 oz carbon rod telescopes into 12 feet in length and packs neatly into its own case, strapping easily onto lash straps on the underside of the Light Hip Pack. A little wallet finishes off the kit holding a coiled line and flies, plenty of space left in the pack for some beers and whathaveyou.

Strawfoot Easter Egg

IMG_1525

Garrett of Strawfoot Handmade reached out to me to help hide a couple of his camo pouches around Philadelphia this coming Thursday. He’s also enlisted the help of some other cool dudes across the country: @theathletic took care of Portland yesterday, @theradavist drops off in Austin today, @freshairbicycles in SF tomorrow, and both @goldensaddlecyclery and @onetrippass in Los Angeles on Friday. Each person will post a photo hint of the location on their respective Instagram account, many pouches will include a prize! If you’re in Philly and you happen to find one of mine then you’ll find a code for a free FairEnds cap inside so be sure to keep a watch on my account @corkgrips.

South 2 West 8: Fish and Bike

Of all the places I would expect to see a fat bike appear a look book for Nepenthes brand South 2 West 8 is not at all one of them. But, maybe this all makes a lot of sense for the brand which focuses on rugged outdoor packs and some apparel. This is not the first time I’ve thought about fishing and cycling together. I actually really like the idea of combining bikes with other sports, for instance the collaboration between Rocky Mountain and Surface was interesting though I don’t totally get what you’re supposed to do with your bike once you strap on your skis.. Cycling and fishing however- excellent stuff.  The appearance of Tenkara rods of course is no surprise, both because of its Japanese origin and compact/minimal nature. View the whole look book here as well as their ongoing Fish and Bike journal.

OYO Mountain

OYO Mountain Products is the side brand of Colorado gear brand Topo Designs that was created to function as the in-house line for their flagship store as well as a way to make some items that they wouldn’t normally with Topo. Items like frisbees, hacky sack bags, and other multicolor accessories. And of course there are bags, how could they not? A quick look at their tumblr reveals what inspires OYO: vintage ACG, hardtails of the 80’s and 90’s, Group B rally cars, hi-vis sportswear, and pretty much everything else dreams are made of. Looking forward to seeing what else they come up with this Summer.

Just a sampling of the lookbook Foster shot for the upcoming Patagonia Legacy collection that celebrates 40 years of Patagonia by updating ten original designs with new materials and some fit changes as well. The collection consists of six outerwear pieces, three bottoms, and one pack. Notable classic favorites will include the Mesclun Retro-X jacket shown in the first photo and a quilted version of the classic Snap-T that has been making a comeback in the past couple of seasons. The collection will be available exclusively from Patagonia beginning September 1st. Check out the rest of the Foster’s trip/lookbook here and make sure to follow along with his never ending (?) journey over at Out of Reception.
