I lived in Baltimore for two years before ever finding out about this place, now I can’t visit the city without making a stop here. The basement is a catacombs of used and unused outdoorsing equipment with everything from ski poles to skillets capable of feeding Paul Bunyan.

Everyday

Chances are you won’t catch me without either my surplus German rucksack or Class 5 pullover anorak. The anorak was a thrift store find in the dead middle of summer, hibernating in my closet amongst other warmer items and waiting for cooler days. I wouldn’t mind if it was like its lined brother. For more of my photography check out my photo blog and portfolio site.

Larry Sultan Tribute
One of my favorite photographers died yesterday at age 63 from cancer. I had the honor of meeting and sharing a meal with Sultan when I was only a freshman in art school because a friend but only came to fully appreciate his work the following years. 63 is too young for such a great artist to die, I can only imagine what other great work could have come from him in the future. Article from the times.

Tweed Ride
This weekend yours truly took part in the second annual Philadelphia Tweed Ride. 105 people dressed down on their bicycles taking over the city and generally having an amazing time on what was a perfect autumn day. I hauled around my Linhof Technika 4×5 camera on my back and used up all but my last sheet of Polaroid 54 film. I suppose the last sheet will have to be for a special occasion of some sort? For more pictures of the event visit the official Tweed Ride Philadelphia website.

Glen Denny
Photographer Glen Denny released a book in ’07 of his work documenting Yosemite in the 60’s while hanging around what turned out to be pioneers of contemporary mountain climbing. While I’m not really that interested in photographs of guys climbing mountains as impressive as it may be his candid shots are what are really special to me. They give off a certain care-free vibe that I’m sure is important to someone who’s not afraid of scaling rock faces with the underdeveloped equipment that they had. Buy the book here.
