Cross Fan

Photographs by Chris Milliman whom you might recognize for his newsprint zine Home and Away that he did for Freeman Transport last spring. These photos were taken in Flanders, a region located in present day France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, well known for its love of cyclocross. Cyclocross is certainly more of an exciting spectator sport (to me) than road racing where you simply stake out a spot and wait for the peloton to pass by- though you can’t really tell if these fans are having much fun or are just standing around getting pissed (and then peeing on things). Read on for a cross fan kit..

Filson & Film

A good camera bag is hard to come by and personally I’ve never really found or owned one I particularly liked very much. Why not just turn a good bag into a good camera bag with a help of a padded insert or do it yourself?

From top to bottom: Filson #257, #240, and #266.

Garry’s M4

I stumbled onto these pictures of Garry Winogrand’s Leica through a camera dealer’s website- talk about patina. Upon close inspection you can see exactly where his palm and fingers came in contact with the body throughout his life as a photographer. Even more impressive is the impression of film sprockets on the pressure plate- in layman’s terms: he shot a lot of film.

William Christenberry

It’s been a long time since I’ve looked at Christenberry’s work but I’ve never appreciated it so much. The subject of his work (also includes sculpture and painting) is his home of Hale County, Alabama which was also the subject for Walker Evan’s photographs in Let Us Now Praise Famous Men. As soon as the days start getting a bit longer and a little warmer I’m gonna have to start taking out my 4×5 camera on trips.

Orvis

A few photos from the flagship Orvis store in Manchester taken on my recent winter holiday in Vermont. Not quite as impressive as Bean’s flagship store if you ask me..

Benji Wagner

Benji Wagner is a photographer living and working in Portland, OR who also happens to be from around the same part of Maryland that I grew up in. Some of his most recent work has been documenting the Rapha Continental team in both still and moving pictures. I’m a fan.
