Pieces from Nepenthes brands Engineered Garments and female counterpart brand FWK as seen on Bows + Arrows‘ webshop. Lots of nice little button and pocket details as well as some favorites like olive drab and black watch plaid. To be honest, I’m much more interested in the offerings from FWK over EG but they do complement each other quite well.

This year’s collaboration between Levi’s and Filson has brought some interesting pieces such as Levi’s iconic trucker jacket constructed in Filson’s Shelter Cloth with rugged details like a full sized game pocket and zippered storm flap; last year’s well-received trucker jacket in Filson’s Tin Cloth is also being offered again this season. Also worth mentioning from this collection is the Levi’s 505 jean made from Filson’s Tin Cloth, I have a pair of LVC 505’s in raw denim and the fit is great- slim in the seat and straight in the leg without being too wide. With the aid of the Tin Cloth’s ability to resist wind and water they could make for a decent winter commuting pant. All American made and available at both Levi’s and Filson.
Note: denim hunting vest may not actually be constructed with Granny Smith apples but make for a neat William Tell reference.

Sid Mashburn, whose shop I have been interested in since an introduction by Mr. Castleberry, has just launched his online shop today which features a nice set of illustrations on the front page.. a nice down to earth touch. Among the selection of shirts, trousers, bermuda shorts, and other Southern prep staples I was pleased to find accessories like Russell Moccasin shoes, Filson bags, and handsome little Laguiole pocket knives. Read on for a kit made from Sid’s offerings.

“How is the new Army fatigue hat supposed to be worn? The men of the 45th Division, Camp Barkeley, Texas, would like to know. In lieu of an official edict, here are four suggested solutions, all doubtless incorrect. Pvt. Bert Stephenson (top left) wears his sailor style; Pvt. Juan Varels (top right) prefers a snap-brim effect; Pvt. Jaramillo Regimio (lower left) imitates firemen and fishermen while Pvt. Hack Lawrence (lower right) simply does a Lily Daché and lets it go at that.”

Tommy Rebel aka REBEL SC is something of a legend in New York City and the somewhat underground subcultures of graffiti and vintage gear collecting. I was first drawn to Rebel after seeing pictures of box trucks he had painted in New York in the 80’s and mid 90’s. To me, these trucks epitomized that era of graffiti and sadly I have not been able to find some of the best throws and pieces that are stuck in my mind still. Though his Brooklyn basement collection of vintage Nikes, Polo gear, and North Face’s (and so much more) is well known these pictures weren’t as easy to track down as I had initially hoped. Many years ago I recall coming across flash pictures of his basement that were similar to the few above but less posed- shoe boxes reaching ceilings and lining the walls. I’m sure there’s a lot to be said about having such a compulsive desire to collect and write your name everywhere but for now just enjoy the pictures.
I think this post speaks for itself but I’m a big fan of Japanese style. Pictured are some fine uses of olive drab, breton stripes, camo, and a sort of Japanese sprezzatura for lack of better words.
