Shinola Bike Tour
If you haven’t yet heard about Shinola by now then let me get you up to speed real quick: Waterford bikes, Detroit made watches, leather accessories, and journals. I got a chance to visit their newly opened
Last week Shinola will be kicked off their bike tour that brings their Willy’s Jeep loaded with Shinola wares to twenty locations across the country through October. I’m honored to help host them on their Philly stop at Art in the Age Thursday the 25th (tomorrow!) and of course get a chance to ride around on some of their bikes. The event kicks off at 6 pm running until 9 with food, booze, and bikes. What more could you want in an event? More info about the tour and dates here.

Bondi
MAKR may be more well known for their leather and canvas accessories but coming from a background in design and skateboarding owner-designer Jason Gregory has put his skills from both together to produce a couple interesting deck shapes. The second shape having just released measures 8.4″ by 31.75″ with a cool Bondi Blue bottom, a little wide but good all-around shape with a bit of concave. Their other cruiser shape is a bit wider at 9″ and looks pretty damn fun in motion rolling on some big soft Drifters.

Outlier Three Way Shorts
After receiving a pair of Outlier‘s Three Way Shorts late last summer they had quickly become my go-to short on hot summer days, especially on those days when I’m biking around town and working up a sweat. Thanks to the magical properties of the Schoeller fabric, the same used in my Climber pants, the shorts breathe extraordinarily well in addition to repelling water should you get caught in a summer storm. That’s not to say the fabric is waterproof but should they get wet enough to absorb water the drying time is very short, especially compared to any chino shorts I’m used to wearing all summer. Dealing with truly brutal summer heat? Try the Ultralight Shorts.
The cut of the short itself is perfect and not overly balloon-y like many shorts feel to me. Designed for movement you’ll never feel constricted while swimming, biking, hiking, and anything else you can throw at it. The shorts also come in a longer cut, the Three Way Longs, as well as an even shorter cut that Outlier calls the Three Way Trunks. The inseams measure 5″, 8.5″, and 11.5″ depending on what you’re most comfortable with wearing.
Ample sized pockets are made from a combination of soft breathable Supplex and a mesh panel to let water to drain if you feel like taking a dip. The hidden drawstring is a really nice feature that lets belt-free wear come with ease, but if you really don’t care for it dangling around you could always just pull it out.
Great job Outlier, can’t wait to see what else you’ll come up with..

Patagonia Legacy

Just a sampling of the lookbook Foster shot for the upcoming Patagonia Legacy collection that celebrates 40 years of Patagonia by updating ten original designs with new materials and some fit changes as well. The collection consists of six outerwear pieces, three bottoms, and one pack. Notable classic favorites will include the Mesclun Retro-X jacket shown in the first photo and a quilted version of the classic Snap-T that has been making a comeback in the past couple of seasons. The collection will be available exclusively from Patagonia beginning September 1st. Check out the rest of the Foster’s trip/lookbook here and make sure to follow along with his never ending (?) journey over at Out of Reception.
