As February progresses the end of winter is in sight, or at least the end of days below freezing. These have been my go-to pieces for this season, often together as shown above. The cords and bean boots will likely continue into the next couple rainy months.

Polo Country (brand within a brand) tags from various garments, mostly found on ebay but some of the more quality pieces are from a vintage dealer based in London.
Bean Boots vs Maine Hunting Shoe
With ample snow on the ground today there couldn’t be a better time to share both varieties of my LL Bean boots. The Maine Hunting Shoes were handed down to me by my father, not quite sure how old they are. The smaller eight inch boots are relatively new to addition to my closet, the leather isn’t quite as nice but they’re much easier to wear with a more modest sole.

Never Let Me Go
Directed by Mark Romanek and shot by Adam Kimmel (Capote, Jesus’ Son, Beautiful Girls). I won’t get into details about what I didn’t like about this movie however I thought the photography was amazing as well as the wardrobes- chunky knits, wellies, etc.
Illustrated Kits
Happy holidays from cork grips. Illustrations by Andrew Mashanov, a fun take on the menswear blogger kits.
Close Up and Private
Winter styling by Sergei Sviatchenko of Close Up and Private. Selected samples make good uses of the duffle coat, goose down, tweed, and fair-isle knits. Plenty more ideas in the Autumn-Winter 2010 pages.

first down
The very first American quilted down coat, The Skyliner, invented in 1936 and later patented in 1940 by Seattle’s Eddie Bauer. Classic style still in production today.. in America? Doubt it.

Free & Easy
Illustrations from Free & Easy magazine, Japan only but available on some US web stores few and far between. As Mister Crew mentioned these illustrations seem kind of silly without seeing them within the context of the issue’s themes which range from navy, army, workwear, and the “Dad’s Style” issues whose covers have included photographs of Steve McQueen and more recently Eric Clapton. Full spread scans from “The Navy-ism” issue below.
